PSYCHOLEGAL SERVICES

Expertise that holds up in court.

Independent psycholegal and psychosocial evaluation for the Superior Court and the Chambre de la jeunesse. Rigorous, impartial, and written to be used. In English and French.

A team, not a single lens

Social worker, psychologist, and collaborating psychiatrist, brought in only where the file calls for it.

Several weeks to a few months

The typical length of a mandate, depending on the number of parties and the complexity of the family history.

BASE SERVICE

Psychosocial expertise

Led by a psychologist or a social worker

What's included
Interviews, document review, observation, and report writing.

Led by our psychologist or one of our social workers.

What determines the choice
The specific legal questions the file needs to answer.

The starting point of every mandate, whichever professional leads it.

A MULTIDISCIPLINARY MODEL

Full psychosocial expertise, with complementary components when needed.

The configuration is agreed with counsel before the work begins.

For files that call for it, these components combine into a full multidisciplinary team, social worker, psychologist, and collaborating psychiatrist, mobilized according to what the file requires. We help you determine the scope that fits your file.

COMPLEMENTARY COMPONENTS, OPTIONAL

Added when the file requires it

Psychometric · psychiatric

Psychometric component
Supplementary evaluation by our psychologist, when standardized testing meaningfully informs the file.

Psychiatric component
Consultation by our collaborating psychiatrist, when a medical perspective is required.

Each component is a distinct professional service, discussed with counsel for both parties before being undertaken.

THE PROCESS

What happens, step by step.

For parents facing an evaluation as much as for the lawyers requesting one.

01

Intake and file review

Court documents, prior reports, collateral records.

05

Psychometric testing

Normed measures supporting the clinical picture.

02

Structured clinical interviews

With each parent, individually and sometimes jointly.

06

Collateral interviews

Extended family, school, daycare, treating professionals.

03

Interviews with the children

Age-appropriate, non-leading, clinically documented.

07

Written report

Detailed, with precise attribution of every source.

04

Observation sessions

08

Testimony

Parent-child interaction observed directly, where indicated.

If the matter proceeds to hearing.

Support for parents navigating challenges in parenting or co-parenting, with a focus on communication, structure, and the child's well-being.

ACCREDITED FAMILY MEDIATOR

AFTER THE ASSESSMENT

Support continues beyond the report.

Filing the report is not always the end of the support a family needs. Kaïa also offers therapeutic and support services, distinct from the assessment mandate.

Individual Psychotherapy

Therapeutic support for parents or children affected by separation or litigation, once the assessment mandate is complete.

PSYCHOLOGIST

Skills-Building Workshops and Groups

Group sessions on co-parenting, conflict management, and domestic violence, facilitated by our team.

SOCIAL WORKER OR PSYCHOLOGIST

Co-Parenting Follow-Up

Ongoing support to help a parenting agreement work in practice over time.

SOCIAL WORKER OR PSYCHOLOGIST

For the sake of neutrality, these services are generally provided by a professional other than the one who conducted the assessment.

What changes the scope

The number of parties, the volume of documentation, whether a psychometric or psychiatric component is involved, and the hearing days anticipated.

How we proceed

A first discussion of the questions your file needs to answer, then a written estimate. No work begins before that.

Tell us about the file.

We prioritize lawyers and judicial actors, and we will tell you plainly if a mandate falls outside our scope.
