Myriam Lecousy
PhD (c), Under Supervised Practice
Clinician specialized in emotion-focused and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) interventions, working with trauma, personality dynamics, suicidal ideation, crisis intervention, high-risk population, and family systems. With over a decade of experience in community mental health, program development, and national advocacy, she integrates evidence-based intervention with creativity and a systemic vision to support individuals and families in complex contexts. Her work is guided by clarity, compassion, and a deep belief in people’s capacity to heal and transform.
My Story
Myriam is a clinician whose work sits at the intersection of deep therapeutic care and community-level impact. With extensive clinical experience in psychological assessment, DBT, trauma-informed therapy, personality disorders, anxiety, crisis work, suicidality, and high-risk behaviours, she supports adolescents, adults, and families through evidence-based therapeutic approaches that are structured, warm, and collaborative. She has trained and worked in hospital settings, private clinics, and community organizations, accompanying individuals and families as they navigate complex emotional and relational challenges. Her therapeutic style is grounded in inclusivity, creativity, and a strong emphasis on collaboration and empowerment.
Beyond her clinical practice, Myriam has worked extensively in community mental health, policy development, and program implementation for the past decade. She has developed and implemented mental-health programs for national organizations and first responders, ensuring that high-risk and underserved groups receive trauma-informed, culturally responsive support. She has delivered conferences and mental-health training across Canada on various topics, helping to broaden mental-health literacy and shift public conversations.
Myriam also served as a Bell Let’s Talk spokesperson, working to reduce stigma and amplify the voices of individuals with lived mental-health experience. For several years, she served as co-chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Youth Council, where she was consulted on national policies, guided service transformation, and participated in the evaluation of mental health programs across the country.
At age 21, she founded her own non-profit organization, providing free peer support, phone lines, and chat services to university students navigating emotional distress — an initiative that won the McGill Dobson Cup Social Enterprise Competition and contributed to increased mental health accessibility on campuses.
Myriam holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Studies of Medicine at McGill University, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Child and Youth Work at Concordia University, where she was trained to provide psycho-educational assessment and specialized treatment planning for children and youth. She is currently completing her PhD in Clinical and Community Psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal, and practices her therapeutic work under supervision.
At Kaïa Psychology, Myriam brings this dual expertise to the development of clinical/community programs, therapeutic groups, and the clinic’s broader identity, weaving together individual care and systemic vision to support clients in complex contexts.
